Abstract: HBX provides a usable X environment for satellite internetworking channel that has high bandwidth and long latency. It uses various latency reduction techniques to hide the significant delays from X Window users. The techniques are caching, prefetching, and client-side premature allocation. The HBX software consists of a client-side proxy and a server-side proxy to maintain the compatibility with the current X environment.
